There was an interactive Earth Day display titled: Give Earth A LIKE!
The, Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden featured an ancient ginkgo bonsai at this spring show. IBA members were also showing, “Funsai,” which is a child friendly style of tree that was specially developed for The Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden.

On April 19, and 20, Easter Weekend, the weekend closest to Earth Day the Iowa Bonsai Association Spring had our Spring Show at the Greater Des Moines Botanical Garden. New this year featured one table of “Funsai”. This as a plant or tree with bonsai qualities, but it is in a fun container. Attracting the attention of kids is the goal here, and perhaps helping them envision the bonsai as little trees when placed in a setting of other miniature items. We also featured Shohin.

East meets West, the first annual Spring Ahead Festival at the Des Moines Botanical Center, was held February 7-10, 2008. The Iowa Bonsai Association provided tokonoma exhibits and some of the programs for this event. Reaction to the tokonoma was very positive, and included the comments:
